dir en grey survey

I haven't done anything like this in ages, but I've been feeling sentimental about the time when I was really into J-rock and everything.. so why not, I guess.

1: When and how did you discover Dir en grey?
I don't entirely remember. A friend of mine found a picture of them somewhere online, and we became interested in the band. I was around.. 13? so it was 2003~2004ish.

2: Your favorite member.
It used to be both Shinya and Kyo, but Kyo is the one that has kind of resonated with me over time.

3: Your favorite album.

4: Do you prefer Missa or Six Ugly + favorite song.
Six Ugly. Favorite song on that would be Umbrella, just because that was the first song of theirs I ever heard.

5: Your favorite single.

6: Your favorite PV.
OBSCURE, Kodou, or -saku-

7: Your favorite song from Withering to death.
This album is one of my favorites so I don't think I can pick just one song. I love THE FINAL of course, and Kodou, as well as Jesus Christ R'n'R, Higeki wa mabuta wo oroshita yasashiki utsu, and Itoshisa wa fuhai ni tsuki.

8: Your favorite song from UROBOROS.
I actually don't have this album. It was around this time that I started to lose interest in the direction in which their music was going.

9: Your favorite song from THE MARROW OF A BONE.
Ryoujoku no Ame, THE PLEDGE.

10: Your favorite song from DUM SPIRO SPERO.
So far I've only listened to this album once through, and to be honest my opinion of it wasn't the greatest. I do like LOTUS and VERITAS though.

11: Your favorite song overall.

12: A Dir en grey song you know all the words to.
I'm not sure if I really know all the words to any of their songs (being that I don't speak Japanese and I've never made it a point to teach myself all the words).

13: Your favorite Dir en grey era.
Vulgar~Withering to death era.

14: Your first Dir en grey song.

15: Your first Dir en grey PV.
No idea, I think it was OBSCURE but I'm not totally sure. It might have been Cage.

16: Your favorite Dir en grey lyric + translation.
My favorite lyrics used to be 304 Goushitsu, Hakushi no Sakura but I also really like Higeki wa mabuta wo oroshita yasashiki utsu and Itoshisa wa fuhai ni tsuki.

17: Favorite interview.
Can't say I'm really familiar with any specific interviews.

18: Your favorite group picture.
19: Your 3 favorite pictures of Kyo.

20: Your 3 favorite pictures of Kaoru.

21: Your 3 favorite pictures of Die.

22: Your 3 favorite pictures of Shinya.

23: Your 3 favorite pictures of Toshiya.

24: Most memorable moment with Dir en grey.
My most memorable moment personally was meeting and shaking hands with Kaoru and Shinya after a concert.

25: A Dir en grey song you can relate to the most.

Couldn't really say off hand.

26: Your favorite group / member quote.

I can't find the specific quote but I know there's one where Kyo was talking about sadness or despair and how people who haven't experienced it can't really understand it. I've always liked that.

27: Your favorite Dir en grey gif.

Don't have one.

28: Your favorite Dir en grey merchandise that you own.

Kyo's Zenryaku, Ogenki Desu Ka? poetry book, or the TOUR04 CODE OF VULGAR[ism] DVD (I used to watch it every day for a while).

29: Have you seen them live (tell us about it) / do you plan to.
Yeah, I saw them at the 2006 Family Values Tour. It was pretty amazing, because I thought I would never see them live. It was a really good show, though I don't really entirely remember because I was freaking out lol.

30: If you could say one thing to all of Dir en grey, what would it be?
I'd probably just tell them that their music has continually made me happy and I kind of look up to them.

  1. I really enjoyed reading this! Dir en grey was the first jrock band I ever listened to back in 2004, and I saw them for the first time at family values as well! I liked the pictures you picked for Kyo.

Thank you so much for following my blog, we really have a lot in common!

  2. I'm glad someone other than myself enjoyed reading through this, haha.
Cool to see that we have a lot in common, your blog is interesting! :D Thanks for following also!
