revolutionary road

I watched Revolutionary Road for the first time a few months ago, and absolutely loved it. I initially downloaded it solely because I was obsessing over Leo DiCaprio (I had watched Titanic for the first time and fell madly in love with him, so I downloaded a bunch of his movies). Turns out it was just my kind of film. It hit home for me in some ways, I could really relate to the way April (and even Frank at times) felt about life. I felt the ending was extremely predictable, but it didn't ruin the movie. And can I just say: how perfect are Leo and Kate together? They need to get married asap and have beautiful babies.

Anyway, I bought the book shortly after watching the movie. While reading I had tried to keep an open mind, but it's very hard to keep from comparing it to the movie. For the first.. two-thirds of the book I found it very hard to relate to the characters. April's character seemed much more.. cold and "far away," so to speak. The last third of the book was really interesting, though. In comparison the first part was kind of boring and drawn out. It took me a while to make my way through it because something about it just wasn't rubbing me the right way, but towards the end I was really drawn in and felt I could personally relate a lot better. Overall, it's a good book. I feel the movie did a better job of playing out the story (though the book did go more in depth with all the different characters), but this was still a good read.

  1. Have you seen What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Leo's really awesome in that--he actually plays a mentally challenged character, so it's a very different role for him. One of my favorite movies, it's very emotional. :)

  2. I've seen bits and pieces, but never the whole thing-- though it's definitely on my to-watch list. I've heard nothing but good things about it :)
